The Area 81 Racing team posted 13 Series wins throughout the 2015 calendar year. The team split their emphasis between the South Atlantic Road Racing Championship (SARRC) and the South East Division Championship (SECS) or the “Alternate Road to the SCCA Runoffs. “ The final result was Tim Pierce taking the SECS Championship and Richard Franklin finishing 2nd in the SARRC Championship. The team also had a strong showing at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, where Tim finished in the Top 10.
Tim Pierce, Car #18 – What a great year for our team! We’re very excited to have won the SECS Championship, but personally I’m more proud of the Top 10 finish at the Runoffs. Congrats to Richard for a great season in SARRC, as he was a mechanical issue away from winning the team’s second straight SARRC Championship. His on track performance has really stepped up this year and it will be a heated battle in 2016 as I transition back to SARRC.
Richard Franklin, Car #81 – A solid performance is the way I would describe my 2015 Season. Anytime you can post 8 – SARRC Wins in a SCCA season with a personal lap time improvement of 2 seconds at your home track, it is a good one. Sure I had my share of mechanical & electrical difficulties throughout the season, but that’s racing. My efforts regarding aero development have really paid off, and after 4 seasons of notes, my Stohr F1000 responds very well to mechanical and aerodynamic set-up changes. In the engine department, my RF Motorsport & Development engines performed very well.
From the marketing standpoint, the team’s commercial website www.Area81Racing.com has had more page views than ever before. Look for the 2015 Area 81 Racing Season Calendar to be published soon. One of the planned highlights will be racing again on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Long term, the team is committed to attend the 54th Annual SCCA Runoffs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2017. It will take plenty of dedication, preparation and speed to do well at the legendary “Brickyard.” In the meantime, our team looks forward to many Race Wins, Podiums and Championships!
