2014 – A Year in Review – Area 81 Racing Brings Home the SARRC Championship!

Area 81 Racing competed in 5 states with races at Road Atlanta, New Jersey Motorsports Park, Virginia International Raceway, Carolina Motorsports Park, Roebling Road Raceway, and the iconic Daytona International Speedway. They competed in SCCA Majors, the F1000 Championship Series, and South Atlantic Road Racing Championship events.

Tim Pierce and Car #18 found the podium in 7 races, including 5 race Wins, which placed him tied for 1st place for the SARRC Championship going into the SARRC Invitational Challenge at Daytona International Raceway in October. An exciting back and forth battle for 2nd through 4th positions would ultimately decide the Championship. He fought to the 2nd step of the podium in Daytona, giving him a 7 point cushion at the top of the standings and his first career Championship. Tim would also earn top 10 finishes in the F1000 Championship Series events and two 4th place finishes in Majors events at NJMP. It was a massive turnaround for the driver, who watched the first three races as a spectator with back-to-back blown motors.

Richard Franklin and Car # 81 took his place on the podium in 6 SARRC races, including 4 SARRC Race Wins. He was in the hunt for the SARRC Championship until the final laps at Daytona. Additional season highlights include a 3rd place SCCA Major Podium finish at Road Atlanta and several top 10 finishes in the F1000 Championship Series / SCCA Major events. The reliability of Richard’s Stohr F1000 was enhanced significantly as investments were made in spare bodywork and additional engine development. In addition, reams of aerodynamic data were realized with a much publicized visit to the high-tech A2 Wind Tunnel in Mooresville, NC.

From the marketing standpoint, the team’s commercial website www.Area81Racing.com has been continually updated and has received over 42,936 Page views to date. We have expanded our Social Networking with over 180 followers on Area 81 Racing’s FaceBook page and Twitter feeds and YouTube Subscribers. Over 14,940 viewers have visited the team’s YouTube page, featuring our exciting in-car videos.

As for 2015, look for the Area 81 Racing Season Calendar to be published soon. One of the planned highlights will be racing again on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. In addition, the prestigious SARRC Invitational Challenge event in 2014 will help prepare the team for a potential appearance in the 52nd Annual SCCA Runoffs in 2015. We look forward to many Race Wins, Podiums and Championships.

None of our success would be possible without the support of our valued sponsors; Waterfall Security Solutions, The Franklin Agency, Briky, our Area 81 Racing Crew and our supportive families. We want to THANK YOU ALL for your support as we look forward to 2015!
